Service terms

What you are agreeing to, exactly.

Founding members are confirmed on their page and by text before the first pickup. Nothing is charged until your route is running.

Claiming a founding spot is free

Adding your household to a founding list costs nothing. We do not ask for a card, a bank account or any payment detail on that path, and we never will just to hold your spot. Claiming a spot does not obligate you to become a paying customer, and it does not obligate IslandHaul to open your area, on any date, ever. Nothing is guaranteed by claiming a spot — not a pickup day, not a date, not that your area reaches the number it needs to open at all.

Household plans, bags and prices

A plan is a number of pickups a week and a number of tied bags at each of them. The price for your household is the price of your plan at your bag count, at the founding rate if you hold one and the standard rate otherwise. The prices below are read from the same code that prices a subscription, so the page and the bill cannot disagree. These are the prices that apply when your area’s route runs; if the real cost of running a route changes before then, they can change, and we will say so plainly rather than let the site and reality drift apart.

Island Weekly — 1 pickup a week. One bag only; this plan does not offer a bag upgrade.

Island 2× — 2 pickups a week. Each extra bag adds $16/month — the founding rate never discounts an add-on bag.

The driver takes what is out, always, and nothing is argued about at the kerb. An extra bag is collected and logged. On the third logged extra bag in a rolling month you get a message with the exact price of adding a bag and a link to do it. You are never billed per event, because a subscription that quietly varies is not a subscription.

The founding rate lock

A founding rate is offered to the earliest households on each area’s list, up to that area’s own limit — the live count and how many founding spots are left is always shown on that area’s card, not repeated here as a fixed number, so this page never goes stale against the real count. If you hold a founding rate it lasts 12 months, counted from the day your area’s first pickup actually runs — not the day you claimed your spot. After that term, or if you claim a spot after your area’s founding spots are gone, the standard price applies. Add-on bags follow the same rule either way: the founding rate discounts your plan’s one-bag base price only.

Billing: after the first pickup, through PayPal

A subscription is offered to your household only after a first pickup has actually run in your area. The software enforces this: it will not create a subscription for a household whose area has no completed first pickup behind it. No card is taken when you claim a spot, and claiming a spot authorizes no charge of any kind.

When a subscription is offered, you approve it on PayPal’s own pages and PayPal charges you monthly from then on. IslandHaul never sees or stores your card, bank or PayPal credentials — see the privacy summary. PayPal is a separate company and its own terms apply to your account with them. Cancelling through PayPal cancels the payments; tell us as well, so we take your stop off the route rather than sending a truck to it.

When a pickup does not happen

If your stop is on a sent route and the truck never reaches it — the disposal site is closed for the day, the road is closed, weather moves the day — a credit is issued to your account automatically and you are told about it. A credit is paid back to you as a refund on your next monthly payment. A stop we did reach is not credited: if nothing was out at your spot, or a blocked stop was photographed and logged, that is a pickup we ran and it is not refunded. Nothing is charged for something we refuse to take.

Household trash in tied bags is the whole service. Bags must be tied, not leaking, and 30 lb or less; a 13- or 30-gallon bag is standard. These items cannot ride on a residential route: bulky items and furniture, appliances, tires, batteries, electronics, paint, oil, gas cylinders, construction debris, medical waste, liquids and grease, yard waste, household chemicals (pool, garden, cleaning), hot ashes or coals, dead animals, and ammunition or fireworks. If one of those is at your spot it is photographed, tagged and left, and you get a message saying what it was and why.

Skipping, pausing, changing and leaving

Your own page — reached by the reference link we send you, or by signing in with the email on your account — is where you ask for a skip, a pause, or a plan or bag change, and where you can leave. A skip sent by 4 p.m. the day before is left off the route when the route for that day is built; a skip earns no credit. A pause, or a plan or bag change, is recorded and shown as pending until a person acts on it; nothing about your plan or your billing changes the instant you tap a button. Leaving is different. Cancel any time from your own page and your stop will come off the route at once, with billing stopped before your next payment. You can also message us, and we will cancel it for you. For 14 days after you leave you can sign in and undo it from that page; you come back at the end of your area’s line, and a founding rate may no longer be open. To message us, text back the number our message came from, or use the support page. Leaving costs you nothing, needs no reason, and there is no minimum term. A founding rate locks your price, not your stay: you can leave whenever you like. See the privacy summary for what happens to your data when you ask us to remove it.

Villas, short-term rentals and HOA buildings

Properties sold through a manager and condo or HOA buildings are quoted per property and per unit rather than priced from the table above, and they are billed by invoice to the account rather than by household subscription. An invoice states its period, its line items, any credits applied and its total, and it is due on the date it carries. A manager who runs enough properties with us gets a volume discount, applied on the invoice. The same rule holds as for a household: no invoice is payable, and no turnover pickup is charged, before a first pickup has run in that area. Turnovers scheduled from a property’s booking calendar are charged as they are collected. Reminders about an unpaid invoice are plain notices; there is no collections language in this platform, and the software refuses to send any.

Weather, roads and the disposal site

Weather moves a route sometimes, and so does a closed road, a holiday, or the disposal site being shut. When a day moves you are told before it moves — not after your bags have been sitting out. Bags go for disposal after collection; nothing is stored at anybody’s house.

Messages you agree to

Messaging consent. Ticking the consent box next to a phone field means IslandHaul can text or call that number about your spot, your route, your pickups and your account — nothing else. It is not marketing consent, and there is no marketing message in this platform to receive. Reply STOP to any text to stop them, START to turn them back on, and HELP for what they are and where to get support. Texts go out between 08:00 and 21:00 Atlantic Standard Time, except four notices about your own pickup that day: the truck being about twenty minutes out, and whether your bags were picked up, nothing was out, or the stop was blocked. Your message and data rates may apply. The version of this wording is stored with your record, so we always know what you agreed to.

Liability, and the plain limits of this

IslandHaul collects tied household trash bags left at the spot you described. We are not responsible for anything of value put in a bag, for anything left at the spot that we do not take, or for what happens to bags left out and not collected on a day a route did not run. Put nothing in a bag you would mind losing.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States Virgin Islands, and the courts of the Virgin Islands are where any dispute about them belongs. IslandHaul serves St. Thomas.

Changes to these terms

These terms change when the service changes. The consent version stored with your record captures the wording that was in place when you agreed to it.
